Ellen's latest challenge is:
SOLO, NON-STOP AROUND THE WORLD ON A MULTIHULL
A record only attempted fives times before in sailing history - only one sailor made the distance non-stop.
It will be extreme, it will be on the edge, it will be dangerous.
“Racing against the clock, no one else, just the time of the previous record, the pace is unrelenting...you push as much as you dare...”
Ellen MacArthur, Skipper, trimaran B&Q
TIME TO BEAT...
72 DAYS, 22 HOURS, 54 MINUTES + 22 SECONDS
Current record set by French sailor, Francis Joyon, on board 90-foot multihull IDEC in February 2004.
February 7, 2005 MacArthur sails into record books
Britain's Ellen MacArthur has become the fastest person to sail single-handedly around the world.
The 28-year-old completed her journey at 10.29pm on Monday, making a time of 71 days and under 13 hours.
MacArthur said: "I feel absolutely exhausted but I'm elated to be here. It has been an unbelievable journey."
He shore team met her as she crossed the finish line, and they will sail with her into Falmouth, where a crowd of people is waiting to greet her.
Ellen cracked the record set by Frenchman Francis Joyon of 72 days, 22 hours, 54 mins and 22 secs.
She said: "The whole voyage has been very draining, and there's a lot of things going round in my head.
"But it's great that I can finally switch my brain off and relax in the company of others, which I've really missed."
She broke five other records on the trip, setting record times to the Equator, the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin in Australia, Cape Horn and back again to the Equator.
